How to Begin

The Oak Park Suzuki School’s mission is to promote the highest of musical ideals and to arouse a passion for excellence in the study of music among young people. Through a series of intense and personal educational experiences, students are prepared for a lifetime of music making regardless of professional aspirations.

Enrollment is ongoing at OPSS and may be arranged after meeting with Ms. Lanfear for an introductory lesson. You may send an email or call the school to schedule this meeting.

(The recommended age to begin lessons is 4 1/2 to 5 years of age. This is a general guideline, but the best way to find out if your child is ready for lessons is to set up a time for you and your child to meet with the director. For families interested in starting a music class younger than 4 years of age, please contact us regarding Early Childhood music class recommendations).

The first thing you need to do is come and observe a group class without your child. The next step is to observe a currently enrolled students’ individual lesson. Suzuki violin lessons are a big comittment and we want you, as the parent, to understand what is involved with participating in the program here at OPSS. You are encouraged to bring your child to any additional observations you may want to come for as long as they are able to remain quiet so as not to disturb the lesson (a coloring book can be helpful). These observations are free and are the foundation of any quality Suzuki program. You will find that observing another family is very enjoyable and will prepare you well for the musical journey ahead with your own child. Call today to set up your first observation!

Whether you are a beginner or a transfer student/family, you will need to call and set up an orientation lesson to meet with Ms. Lanfear.

Please call or send an email for individual and group lesson times available for observation.
