Music Mind Games

Music Mind Games classes are a great way to introduce the whole family to music. When students take private lessons at OPSS the theory lessons they have in their private and group lessons include the Music Mind Games curriculum. It is not uncommon to hear the kids chanting--Blue Jel-lo! Huckleberry Jel-lo! Two-oo!

What is Music Mind Games?

Music Mind Games is a curriculum of more than 200 cooperative games for teaching music theory and reading, developed by Michiko Yurko. Used in music studios and classrooms around the world, Music Mind Games makes music theory easy to understand and most of all, it is really fun. Students learn sophisticated concepts involving rhythm, dictation, note reading, and sight singing in the form of imaginative games.

The MMG class is excellent preparation for a student to being reading once they have gained a basic profficiency in playing their instrument.

In the OPSS MMG classes there are about 8-10 students in each class which allows for individual attention but still maintains a group feeling. Parents must attend with students and often participate so as to facilitate continued playing of various reading games at home.
